As always with one of Ms. Haymore's books, I was pulled into the story from the first page and could not put it down.This is a great addition to her Highland Knights series. Aila is a wonderfully charming character, so strong and determined, yet vulnerable at the same time.
Maxwell White is fierce in his desire to protect Aila and remain honorable at the same time, but of course, she does not make it easy for him. I thoroughly enjoyed the banter between these two unforgettable characters.
Not sure how I missed this one when it came out, but I'm certainly glad I found it. Happy reading!

Maxwell White has the task of protecting Aila MacKerrick. Her family has an ancient treasure which is desired by a villain who will kill anyone who gets in his way.
Aila has lived in her small part of Scotland all her life. The family cottage and homestead are all she has of her family. She treasures the memories.
Maxwell is one of a group of knights who have devoted their lives to doing what is right.
When Maxwell first takes Aila from her home, she attempts to escape. Then after she understands how important it is that she be protected, she begins to co-operate and work with Maxwell.
This is a short story which held my interest from beginning to end. There is danger and adventure. There is also a story of strong attraction, love and great courage.
Ms Haymore has created a good story and interesting characters in a short story. I enjoyed this book very much.
Her Wicked Highlander was originally published in the anthology Captured by a Celtic Warrior. It is the novella that fits in between Highland Awaking and Highland Temptation but can be read as a stand alone. It is very well paced and entertaining quick read. This one centers around Maxwell White one of the newer Highlander Knights and a lonely Scottish Lass Aila MacKerrick.
Aila is the only one in her family left she struggling to make it. But one cold night she's kidnapped and taken to a castle. Max and the other Highland Knights are trying to stop a lunatic from starting a Scottish uprising. The madman believes if he has the King Richard Dagger that he can lead Scotland to freedom, if he can find it. Unfortunately Aila is the only one who knows where, as it's rightful owner and her only family heirloom worth anything. Max's job is to protect Aila from a the man willing to kill to get the dagger in his hands. Thankfully Aila has common sense and as soon as Max explains everything she stops trying to escape. The attraction between Aila and Max is something and Aila wants to explore it but Max tries to do the right thing, he doesn't last too long. Sadly the illusion of safety doesn't last much longer than that.
Overall, as quick as this book was to read it was perfect the way it was. The romance was instant but I like that. Aila found what she wanted and she worked to win Max over.

MY THOUGHTS
I enjoyed this novella very much even though I realized after starting to read it that I had previously read and reviewed it as part of the anthology "Captured by a Celtic Warrior" in February of this year.
It is a very engaging story and one that at times is comical. I was pleased to see this particular hero, one of the Highland Knights find a lady he could come to love. The Highland Knights series as a whole has proven to be a good one.
I gave it a very good rating of 5 stars when I read it before and concur now with that opinion.

'Her Wicked Highlander A Highland Knights Novella' by Jennifer Haymore is book 2.5 in the " Highland Knights" series. This is a Novella and is around 90 pages. Please also note that this book was also in the book collection called "Captured by a Celtic Warrior" along with a few other authors. I am glad that they did make this into its own book but if you did buy the collection then you will already have this. This is the story of Aila MacKerrick and Maxwell White. I do feel this is a standalone book.
Max has been sent to collect Aila and keep her safe along with a dagger that she has. But Max was in for a shock as she isn't like other when who are more easy going. Aila puts up a fight and doesn't mind doing things other women wouldn't do. It was fun watching them as they came together.
I love Ms. Haymore's writing. I have truly enjoyed this series so far.

Liked the spirited Aila, and her wit, and Max the honorable Highland Knight. Though the book was not as through a story as the others, a novella. I wish it had more content. I do however love this series, and hope for more adventures of the Knights
A wonderful short story but the story is full of life and emotions. I enjoyed every word. I highly recommend this book.
